It is a slender, perennial climber with woody stems and pinnate leaves composed of multiple pairs of oblong leaflets. Its small, pea-like flowers are typically pink, purple, or white and form in dense clusters. The plant produces distinctive, bright red seeds with a single black spot, resembling a ladybug.
