It is a perennial herb with erect stems. It bears small, lavender to purple flower heads in dense clusters. The leaves are opposite, lanceolate, and serrated, with prominent veins. The plant typically grows to a height of 30-60 cm. It produces small, black seeds.

Leaves are used in wound healing.
